Good timer, but..., June 18, 2013

I think this is a good countdown timer. It is well-made and seems durable. The buttons feel good, not cheap and flimsy, and it fits well in the hand. The soft plastic makes it feel like it could be fairly impact resistant. It does have one drawback that has forced me to not use it for my intended purpose, which is timing a fencing match. A few seconds before the countdown reaches zero, it starts to beep, once per second. So basically, it does the same thing as another countdown timer I recently purchased. This is highly distracting at a critical point in a fencing match, and unless I can find a way to turn off this "feature" the timer will be of no use to me. It's sad that such a good timer is rendered unusable by such a baffling feature of dubious utility. Why in the world would I need to know that time is about to run out? What I need to know is the precise moment when time actually does run out. Unless I can find a way to turn off this "feature" the timer will be of no use to me.

Also, as in every timer I've ever owned, I always wish the lanyard could be longer so I can make referee hand signals as needed and still have it looped around my neck.

All in all, a good countdown timer with one critical flaw for my use. I will not be buying any more of them, sadly, since I like the way this one feels in the hand.

Sportline stopwatch, December 10, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This timer and stopwatch is very high quality with a better-than-average flat lanyard and a plastic buckle. Three line screen has large enough numbers and backlight for dark environments. As good or even better than my old Sportline 461 but able to hold up to 300 lap times. It reports the fastest, slowest and average lap times. Buttons operate softly but with positive action. Not sure how this brand is rated but its products are very reliable

Does what I need but a bit complicated to use, October 26, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The timer is used for competition sailplane timing. I wanted a watch that would time up and down at the same time. The watch works well for this. However I find it complex to set and since my needs are so simple all the other features go to waste. I have to carry the instructions with me in order to be able to set unique times. But it does the job.
