Timex IRONMAN Run x20 GPS

For many of us, GPS technology has made running more enjoyable—freeing us from the treadmills and tracks, providing motivation when we need it and giving an undeniable sense of accomplishment when it’s all done. But it has also come with the cost of wearing a bulky device that leaves tan lines over half of our forearms. What if you could have all of the advantages of GPS, but with the same ergonomic, streamlined fit of the sports watch that you grew up with? The only thing more shocking than the comfort of the Timex IRONMAN Run x20 GPS watch is how fast you’ll go with it.

Everything You Need, Nothing You Don’t

While we’d all love to improve our vertical oscillation (once we’ve looked up exactly what it is), most runners are primarily interested in two things: How far and how fast? The Run x20 GPS was designed with this in mind, giving you your pace, distance and elapsed time on a crisp display you can read without breaking stride. And the fit and comfort will make you forget you are even wearing a watch…until you need it.

But What if You Want Just a Little More?

For those who want a bit more—but still believe in the beauty of simplicity — we included an interval timer. This feature gives you alerts based on distance and/or time, and is a great tool when training for your first 5K or Half Marathon. Additionally, we allow you to customize the watch display, so you choose what you want to see during your run. And we added in one of our favorite features, an audible alert every time you finish a mile or km, so you can easily keep track of your progress.

Did You Call Me Cute?

We believe your watch should match those kickin’ running shoes you wear. With four vibrant and fun colors, the Run x20 GPS offers an option for every taste. But appearances can be deceiving…this is still a Timex IRONMAN watch. With its durable design and 50M water resistance, the Run x20 GPS will stand up to almost anything you can throw at it. And its rechargeable battery with 6-hour GPS capacity ensures that it will keep up with you.

Cheap and basic GPS watch with overly small/tiny display, October 27, 2014
So I got one of these as I wanted a very basic, limited no frills GPS watch. I have no interest in HRM, or tethering to a phone, or maps or uploading saved data with logs or any of that. I simply wanted Pace, Avg Pace, Speed, Distance, laps, some intervals and a watch. That is what you have here. I have now trained and raced with it BUT I use it in conjunction with my main Timex (Sleek 250). which has a larger face and can do more for me than I need this watch to do. So in the end, I won’t be using this for intervals, just GPS real time data like distance, pace, speed.

Given the basic nature of this GPS watch, one would think it would have a bigger display. The display is tiny and hard to read while actually racing or working out. This is the biggest downfall of this watch. So though it is a smallish GPS watch, the display is tiny and just a small square of the round face. The company photos don’t demonstrate this fact and the readable face area was smaller than I expected.

-fairly small & lightweight for a GPS watch
-seems like good battery life, maybe better than I expected
-not had any issues with finding satellites so far when outside
-accuracy seems good from what I can tell
-pretty easy to setup and scroll through screens and get to info

-tiny, tiny display is very hard to read while working out
-proprietary charging cable
-in Lap memory, it does not give distance of the Lap!
-kcals just do not seem correct, and at times, seem WAY off

UPDATE: so I discovered a pretty big omission/flaw in the design. When you save laps and review them it does NOT save the mileage of the lap. So you have no idea how long that lap actually was. You get calories of the lap thank God… but no distance?? WTF???

I downgraded to 3 stars given this lap issue as knowing the distance of a lap is pretty key.

Thanks for the detailed feedback and I am sorry for the delay in response time. After reviewing the Cons section, I noticed that you were not able to see that the RUN x20 does provide Lap Detail. This can be reviewed under the Workout History file. This model will record distance, avg pace & speed of Lap when the Stopwatch is GPS engaged. Please feel free to call me at 1-800-328-2677 to further discuss these features or any other questions you may have about our product. This way we can determine if the watch is functioning properly. Have a wonderful day.

Ruckychang (Bristol, CT United States) – See all my reviews

I am a casual runner and I typically try to run 3-4 times per week with distances around 3-5 miles. This is the perfect GPS watch for me and I am happy to rate it 5 stars. This watch is easy to use, comfortable, lightweight and provides the key metrics I need while running – speed, pace and distance. The price point is perfect for my budget and I am not looking for a ton of crazy metrics. The toughest decision for me was to decide which color to buy as I was attracted to all 4 of them. This watch is highly recommended for entry-level runners looking for their first foray into GPS and not looking to break the bank.

Highly recommend!, December 14, 2014
Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
I just finished my inaugural run with my new Timex Ironman watch, and I’m very, very happy with it. The watch is pretty straight forward and easy to use; very intuitive. The display is easy to read, and the numbers are large enough that I can read them without having to wear my glasses when I run. I was a bit concerned that I wouldn’t be able to get a GPS connection where I live (way, way off the beaten path in a rural mountain village hours from the nearest sizable community), but it connected right away. I ran a route I know well to see how well it tracked distance, it there was no noticeable delay; it seemed to be right on. The watch chimed at each mile and flashed the time it took me to run that mile, which was really convenient. After my run, I reviewed my history and it gave me statistics mile-by-mile, as well as a summary of the total time, distance, and speed. I’m really pleased with this! I regularly race in triathlons and 5K/10K/12K runs; this is a nice addition to my gear bag. For a low-end GPS watch, I don’t think you could do better.
